How we count
What comes from YouTube
The videos, their titles and descriptions, the view, like and comment counts, and the text of every comment and reply. All of it is read from the YouTube Data API on your key when the report is run, and it is true as at that moment.
What we add
Every kind, topic, lean, count and percentage on these pages. A language model reads each comment and classifies it; we then count. These are our classifications, not YouTube's, and YouTube has not reviewed or approved them. Any single comment can be misread, so treat a percentage as a measurement with that error in it, and open the comments behind any figure you rely on.
How a percentage is worked out
One count divided by another, and both counts are shown beside it. "48% negative" on a topic means 48% of the comments that mention that topic, not 48% of all comments.
Who these numbers describe
The people who commented on these videos in this window. It is not a poll of anyone else, and it says nothing about the public.
How long we keep the comments
YouTube's terms let us keep comment text, video titles and channel names for 30 days. After that they are removed from this report. Every count, topic and lean stays, the statistics stay, and each row still links to the comment or the video on YouTube.

How
Each comment was read once more and tagged, in its own words, with the things it mentions and which way it leans on each: positive, negative, neutral, or unclear when it could not be told. Tags that mean the same thing were merged into one topic and the merge is shown on each row. A topic is measured when at least 155 comments mention it; the rest is the long tail. Every percentage is the count shown divided by the count on its row. Comments not about the subject are counted at the top and left out of the rows.

2026 Toyota Hilux review
Deciding whether to buy the 2026 Hilux
Checking real‑world performance and capability
Seeing what’s new versus earlier Hilux models
5 expectations, checked against the 27,066 comments. Open a row to read what was found.
Are you for real? So you will be throwing your BYD away in 8 years time when it worth close to nothing compared to a Hilux that will still be worth $25,000 in 8 years time.
GWM is a well-established brand not just another Chinese startup that’ll vanish in a couple of years. If the price were $20K lower, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one
Does it have adblue?? If yes then maybe just get a used one and repair it and hopefully it will still cost less than this and still produce the same power and torque, if you don't care about extra features and stuff.
And no adblue hassle.
So will you be a Toyota buyer when your current rig dies? I ask because you will NOT be able to buy a Toyota in the future which is like the one you have now.
I think it would be great to get a similar review of their most popular model the SR5. I think a lot of people would be interested to know how the new 'comfort' suspension rides.
@LexxLarsDWhat are you going to do when power grids are knocked out and you can’t get fuel? I’d rather have the EV with a small generator for recharging or back-up battery system I can recharge with solar panels.
@kevin50087as a guy that operates equipment I can say this is false we have lots of equipment without emissions stuff cuz it's old and that stuff runs day after day and the new stuff with def and emissions bull shiz is broken with some emissions related problem so sure maybe that not much issues but I'm pertty sure we all strive for no issues and rather them machines make money everyday
@4WD247Cheers lads, i reckon you guys have to do a poor mans triton build and see how she fairs after a trip through cape York 👀 i know Jock is always up for a challenge…
A bit more power and economy can be achieved with the current engine, they may still do it, I hope. The GR is producing 165 kw, why not use that engine in more of the top models? And use the LC 300 D engine in the Hilux? And a proper pug in Hybrid like in the Lexus 450 H? And a full rallye Dakar version to challenge the Raptor……
Do you think Isuzu products are not reliable? From what I recall, 4JJ had fewer issues than the 1KD and 1GD in the last decade. Even Mitsubishi's 4N15 engine had fewer problems than the Toyota's
I get that it's 2025 and everyone really shifting to automatics now but for a 4x4 ute, I really firmly believe there needs to be a manual transmission option.
Any chance you guys could test the GWM cannon and the or the LDV utes?
Would love to see where they compare to the bigger brands for a lot lower of the price!
Was waiting for this so I can decide what to buy. Really wanted a Toyota Hilux. Now will be going Ranger. Not having 4wd on hard service was the main decider but tbh Toyota just don’t care.
A Prado Ute however would be the perfect vehicle
Test it on the famous beer o'clock hill and check if it gets up there first time around. The previous GR sport could not do it they had to fit over size tyres on it so that the Toyota engineer can get it up the hill after a long struggle.
No Cannon, no Quartermaster, no other Chinese Utes?
Can you do a test on all Chinese Utes and see if they are actually in same class or for city possess!
Bring us the Tacoma. Hilux is being left behind now. I know for a fact that they are too small for the mines, with not enough cabin space for picking up and dropping off machine operators. It's a compromise. Will the EV have a flat floor? Probably not. An 8 speed would be better for loads, towing etc.
Lads, not sure why you could invite a JAC but not a GWM Cannon. Plenty of Cannon diesels out there and the latest 2.4TD looks good for the price point. No it’s not going to beat a super duty or a hilux but let’s be fair. Cannons are the best quality Chinese ute on the market.
Can you check it on rollers? It would be interesting to see what it is capable of with 1 tire traction.
And of course "Beer o'clock" testing 😁 I want to be sure that they make traction work with rear diff lock.
I am a Toyota fan boy but I would go GWM a bigger Ute and comparable dependable engine. Why don’t we get the Tacoma? I would so buy that if it was available

Well seeing ranger and amaroks selling huge with the V6. I thought toyota for sure would have a detuned 3.3L v6 from the Landcrusier in this. But guess I expected too much from Toyota
when showing comparison pix of 2 cars, i wish you could write on the pix which car is which. and: what's wrong with halogen (edit: incandescent) rear lights? led is bad for our health because they flicker (especially the screens), and leds are waaay more expensive to change
@chasingcarsIs Toyota going to sell this “extensively face lifted” Hilux for just 3-4 years and then release a truly all new model in line with Fords Next Next Gen Ranger release schedule?
It will stilk be the best seller, and the only thing people complained about on the previous model was the interior. You tell me what else needed to change
Is Toyota trying to 70-Series the Hilux - retaining the same architecture, engines, and suspension for decades? This new model feel more like a legacy preservation project than a forward-looking evolution.
Dear Toyota, why should the LC 300 be the only Toyota on offer with the F33A and V35A engines? Why not offer them on the Prado, Hilux and Fortuner? Some customers actually want something that can take down or keep up with German SUVs.. just give customers the option.
Crazy. What does Toyota think? Why didn't Toyota properly designed and released an all new Hilux that could match the current double cabs available today on the market
@10:28 I would cosider a HiLux if it had more rear leg room, some newer feautures, the current gen grille, and features that were on par at least with my 2018 Holden Colorado LTZ (which has auto wipers, auto dimming rear mirror, heated side mirrors, and hill hold (with a manual handbrake), remote start and an actual key, not push button, just to name a few favourite features!
Yes the interior is better; however (and this is from a Toyota fanboy) the brand is taking its market share for granted, there are far better products on the road than Toyota.
One question, why did you pat the brake master cylinder when you were talking about the power steering?
Excellent recap boys but quick Q. 1:11:30 the hilux rear diff wouldn't engage, but it wasn't mentioned again and the hilux retains the reliability badge whereas some others get the "wouldn't trust this at the cape" treatment when something goes wrong. Find it amazing how often things don't work or engage on these brand new vehicles but thought that's why people say buying an old platform like the Lux was worth the Toyota Tax?
Should cars be aggressively introducing new tech every year, like cell phones? I hear Apple are fed up of that too and won't be doing yearly versions, choosing a more conservative 2 years. My perspective as a car enthusiast and one that enjoys fiddling with the mechanical side myself, before going to the garage/dealership(only going there for warranty purposes), I prefer the less complicated. I also tend to keep my cars beyond warranty but would understand the tech-oriented enthusiast who will always want the latest and greatest there is. For this reason, I would never own a Ford Ranger
Is that the latest 2020 version or the early 2020 version, they're just so far ahead of everyone else, reliable too, just so reliable, great value too,and reliable.🫣😂
Has Toyota fixed the DPF issue after being fined billions for deceptive conduct, or are people who are buying Toyota’s still believe in the myth Toyota’s are a reliable vehicle?
Have you discussed the model line with Toyota? Have you passed feedback on styling and pricing? Or did you just speak to dealer? Do you think Toyota has gone full demented? Selling rubbish isn’t a good business
Unfortunately resale value will not be known for several years, not to sure I like Toyota 48 volt hybrid system, but generally Toyota hold their trade in value very well.
Why the facelift instead of a really new one? An ancient 6 speed auto for a "new" 2025 model....I guess more buyers will opt for Chinese pickups (if maintenance and spare parts are well organised)
‘Yesterday’s product at tomorrow’s prices’… excellent slogan for Toyota. Very little effort to move this model forward in the face of upcoming competition.
Is this complacency, or arrogance???
Saw the replies on this comment and I'm wondering. Does anyone not know about Mitsubishi and Isuzu? Isuzu has a better engine reliability and Mitsubishi has a better 4WD system. So, what's so special about this new old-Hilux? Because it's a Toyota?
